Meet the team

anna maria

Team lead

I just love my profession, I love working together with people to help them fell better, move better and perform better.

I have been in practice for 20 years and I study extensively to ensure I am up to date with evidence and be at the best practice end of the profession.

What can I help you with?

If you have sustained an injury or you have been in pain for a long time I can help you. However training and clinical experience means I have a greater understanding and see more issues like:

– Shoulder Pain especially Frozen Shoulder
– Persistent Lower Back Pain
– Osteoarthritis pain especially Knee OA
– Chronic Pain conditions like Fibromyalgia

What happens in an appointment with me?

A consultation form will be sent to you automatically by email when you book. When you come in for your appointment we will spend some time expanding on your answers as it is important to understand all factors around the pain and injury. This is followed by physical assessment of your movements. We will discuss what my interpretation of the problem may be and choose together from different options for treatment.

What is involved in the treatment part of the appointment?

My treatment is a combination of massage, manual therapy and exercise/movement. I extensively use functional neurology which is a fancy word to describe evidence based exercises for visual, vestibular and proprioceptive rehabilitation which I find especially useful for improving pain and function.
I also use Virtual Reality sometimes to help with rehabilitation.

What are my qualifications?

Although I came to the UK to study Archaeology, my path changed when in 2002 I fell in love with Massage Therapy after doing a very basic evening course.
I soon understood that I wanted to progressed to a more clinical aspect of the profession so I obtained the BTEC level 5 Diploma and to increase my rehabilitation knowledge I went for a degree in Sports Therapy. As of 2023 I am applying for a Masters in Neuroscience.

I founded and still am lead tutor at The School which is a centre of excellence for the delivery of BTEC level 5 Diploma and training of Soft Tissue Therapists. The School has now become a driver for better and higher standards in the industry advocating evidence based practice.

Apart from my family, friends and dogs, my hobby is my profession so I can be found behind a microphone on one of the different podcasts or speaking at conferences about the value of massage and hands on in modern healthcare.

So if you want to have a chat about your issues to see if I am a good fit for your recovery please feel free to give us me a call and I d be delighted to discuss with no obligation.

Emma

Remedial Soft Tissue Therapist

I am a BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist and experienced Pilates teacher specialising in advanced soft tissue and assessment techniques. I have been treating people and their musculoskeletal aches and pains, using movement and manual therapy since 2009.
I love working one to one with people, assessing and treating pain and movement dysfunction with a variety of manual soft tissue and exercise techniques. Ultimately, this helps to restore function, rebalance movement, improve performance and ability, and create a greater connection between the brain and body.
One body is very different from another, one size does not fit all and so requires individual and tailored consideration. Working on a one-to-one level with a client is so rewarding, to hone in on the specific issues and find that holistic piece of the jigsaw that can make a real difference to their confidence, comfort and ability. As part of my CPD commitment, I’ve kept updated with latest the evidence and thinking to apply that into my ever-evolving clinical reasoning and skills – this industry does not sit still.
I’ve also qualified as a Pilates teacher and find that marrying manual and movement therapy a perfect fit, allowing me to provide a much more comprehensive service to clients that delivers real longer-term benefits.
For leisure, I enjoy walking with my husband and Luna, the German shepherd, to the most remote and wildest parts of Devon (with my Nordic poles). I also am part of a walking group that likes to go exploring every week. I listen to music and occasionally pick up my guitar and get my vocal chords going! I also love to dabble with cooking when I get the time, and spend time in the company of family and friends.

Rebecca

Soft Tissue Therapy

Started my career with a Physical Education degree at Sport and Science University (EEFEUSP – Brazil) as a bachelor (2005)
At the time I specialised in yoga and biomechanics

After several courses as Pilates, TRX (suspension training) and Ayurveda, I upgraded my studies at The School in Exmouth, and now I am also a BTEC level 5 soft tissue therapist (2019).
I also upgraded my yoga course in India (2020) concluding my 200h YTT by Yoga Alliance

My challenge in manual therapy is to create space on the body, and the opportunity to experience the connection of the body and the mind by using breath work and movement integrated.

Magdalena

Soft Tissue Therapist

I am a soft tissue therapist and a qualified personal trainer. I completed my Soft Tissue Therapy course with The School under Anna Maria Mazzieri.

Health, fitness and wellbeing are big passion of mine and I am driven by helping people achieve their goals however small or big they might be.

I integrate Massage therapy at its highest level with more advanced techniques and exercise and movement advice. So for example if you have back pain I will do a thorough assessment to understand the factors around it and how you move then I will treat with Massage Therapy before advising you on what type of movement and exercises you could be doing to feel better.

I have worked in different settings to gain a wide range of skillset ranging from treating sports injuries to chronic conditions like Osteoarthritis, experience has shown I have good clinical results which I know will be enhanced by being part of The Clinic team and benefit from the collective expertise.

Outside of work I really enjoy spending time outdoors, gym and swimming. I also love baking! You’ll often find me in the kitchen making anything from bread to cookies to triple chocolate brownies! Which I am now glad to share with the team at The Clinic.

If you want to have a chat with me in advance to your appointment to see if I am the right person for you please do not hesitate to contact me directly magda@theclinicdevon.co.uk
